An Outdoor Spring wedding at Saltmarshe Hall
Olivia and Duncan’s wedding at Saltmarshe Hall was the epitome of elegance and romance, topped off by a surprise appearance from a film star…yes really!
Weddings at Saltmarshe Hall
This was my first visit to Saltmarshe Hall, and one I’d really been looking forward to. The Hall is just outside the picturesque village of Saltmarshe. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but in reality you’re under an hour from both Leeds and York. It’s the perfect setting, surrounded by rolling Yorkshire fields and on the banks of the River Ouse.
After being in one family for centuries – 1067 to the 1970s! – The Whytes took over Saltmarshe in 2012, moving in and beginning sympathetic restoration works. Today the Hall is the perfect mix of traditional and contemporary decor, nodding to the 900 year history of Saltmarshe but looking to the future with style. Saltmarshe Hall is now one of East Yorkshire’s most popular wedding venues and I quickly saw why. I absolutely loved making my way up the long, winding driveway, catching glimpses of the Georgian, Grade II listed stately home coming into view.
Olivia was getting ready up in the elegant Yorkshire suite, with its views out over the river. There was so much natural light streaming in through those amazing windows and I was in my element. I do love stunning light! After toasting her bridesmaids with fizz, and reading through a rather emotional card from Duncan, it was time for Olivia to step into her stunning dress and get ready to see her groom! First though there was the small matter of a first look with her bridesmaids which took place on Saltmarshe’s beautiful main staircase. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when the girls saw Olivia looking absolutely incredible.
Romantic outdoor wedding ceremony in Yorkshire
All of Saltmarshe Hall’s reception rooms are licenced for wedding ceremonies, but I was delighted to find out that Olivia and Duncan had chosen to get married in the beautiful gardens.
Olivia and her very proud Dad made their way out of the Hall (I’m a big fan of the pots of spring flowers lining the stone steps) and down the pathway towards Duncan and their loved ones. It was a truly romantic ceremony set up. A circular arch of white florals had been set up underneath the blossom trees, the perfect backdrop for Olivia and Duncan to pledge their love to each other.
After an epic confetti throw – one of my favourite moments on a wedding day – it was time for the special guest to make an appearance. Olivia had arranged a surprise for Duncan, James Bond’s Aston Martin! Yes, as seen in numerous Bond films, this classic car was now Duncan’s…for the day!
The surprises didn’t stop there though. After some heartfelt and hilarious speeches Olivia disappeared, before returning in a whole new dress! I love that she fancied slipping into something else for the party and she looked absolutely amazing. There were cheers from the gathered guests as the newly weds took to the floor for their first dance and before long everyone joined them and the party really began.
I loved photographing this stunning Saltmarshe Hall wedding and can’t wait to head back there in the future.
